Saffron Gin Smash

Safran Gin Smash

Ingredients:

  • 50 ml gin (preferably a dry gin)
  • 10-15 pieces of saffron threads
  • 20 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 15 ml simple syrup (1:1 ratio of sugar to water)
  • 4-5 fresh mint leaves
  • Ice cubes
  • Soda or tonic (optional for a more bubbly version)
  • Lemon slice and mint for garnish

How to proceed:

  1. Saffron infusion: Start by soaking the saffron threads in a small amount of warm water (about 1 tablespoon) for 5-10 minutes to release the golden colour and aroma.

  2. Prepare the glass: Take a lowball glass and add fresh mint leaves and the lemon juice. Use a muddler (or the back of a spoon) to gently crush the mint to release the essential oils.

  3. Mix the cocktail: In a cocktail shaker, add the gin, simple syrup, saffron-infused liquid and ice cubes. Shake well to mix and chill all ingredients.

  4. ServingFill the glass with ice cubes and strain the cocktail into the glass. For a lighter, more bubbly version, top it with a little soda or tonic.

  5. DecorationsGarnish the cocktail with a lemon slice and a mint sprig. You can also sprinkle a few threads of saffron for a luxurious touch.

Enjoy your Saffron Gin Smash - a perfect blend of spicy, fresh and citrusy flavours!
