Saffron Irish Coffee

Safran Irish Coffee

Ingredients:

  • 40 ml Irish whiskey
  • 120 ml freshly brewed hot coffee
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 10-15 pieces of saffron threads
  • Whipped cream (lightly whipped)
  • Pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg (optional, for garnish)

How to proceed:

  1. Saffron infusion: Soak the saffron threads in a small amount of warm water (about 1 tablespoon) for 5-10 minutes to release their flavour and golden colour.

  2. Prepare the coffee: Brew a strong cup of coffee. In a heatproof cup or glass, add the hot coffee, sugar and saffron-infused liquid. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.

  3. Add whisky: Pour the Irish whiskey into the coffee and stir gently to mix the ingredients.

  4. Whipped cream: Lightly whip the whipped cream so that it is soft but still floats on top of the coffee. Use the back of a spoon to slowly pour the whipped cream over the coffee so that it settles on top in a nice layer.

  5. Decorations: If you wish, you can sprinkle a little cinnamon or nutmeg over the whipped cream for extra flavour and decoration.

This Saffron Irish Coffee combines the warm, strong taste of coffee and whiskey with the subtle and luxurious flavour of saffron, making it the perfect elegant and cosy drink for cold evenings.

Make Everyday Food Exclusive with Saffron

Saffron has been known throughout history for its distinctive colour and unique flavour. The deep red threads have enriched countless dishes with their intense aroma and colour, and today saffron remains a sought-after ingredient in cuisines around the world.

Saffron's popularity is largely due to its unique ability to add depth and complexity to both sweet and savoury dishes. With just a small amount, typically around 30 mg, saffron can enhance the flavour of everything from rice dishes and soups to desserts. Saffron is known to be a luxurious ingredient and its special properties make it a favourite among chefs and food lovers.
