Saffron Caffe Latte

Ingredients:

  • 1 espresso shot (approx. 30 ml)
  • 2 dl milk (preferably whole milk or barista milk for a creamy consistency)
  • 1 pinch of saffron (approx. 5-6 strands)
  • 1 tsp honey (optional, for sweetness)
  • A little vanilla sugar or cinnamon as a topping

How to proceed:

  1. Heat the saffron:

    • Start by dissolving the saffron threads in a small amount of warm milk (about 1-2 tablespoons). Leave to infuse for 5-10 minutes to bring out the flavour and colour.
  2. Make the espresso:

    • Brew your espresso. If you don't have an espresso machine, you can also use strong coffee from a piston pot or mocha pot.
  3. Heat the milk:

    • Heat the remaining milk, either using a milk frother or in a saucepan over low heat. If using a saucepan, whisk the milk until it reaches a slightly frothy consistency.
  4. Add the saffron:

    • Once the milk is heated, add the saffron-infused milk and honey. Stir well so that the saffron flavour is evenly distributed.
  5. Composition:

    • Pour the espresso into a large glass or cup.
    • Pour the warm saffron-infused milk on top and make sure the foam settles nicely on top.
  6. Topping:

    • If you like, you can sprinkle some vanilla sugar or cinnamon on top for extra flavour.

Your saffron latte is now ready to enjoy! Saffron gives a unique and aromatic flavour that pairs well with the smooth milk and strong espresso.
